We had our first Go Acoustic event of 2007 tonight at The Hog In Armour, Charing Cross, Norwich and it's now NEW & IMPROVED!

Firstly, It's now on a THURSDAY NIGHT

Secondly, It's now in the plush surroundings of UPSTAIRS in the front function room. The room is huge, with a larger stage and the sound is huge too. We have full PA and stage lighting too!

It's a great evening for performers and audience alike and it's FREE!

The reason for this is a new landlord is going into the venue on 15th and he doesn't want to book any events for January so he can settle in.

We sincerely hope that we will be back with the monthly event, showcasing up to another 20 acts during February, so please watch this space.

Since the age of 14 Adele has been crafting strikingly beautiful songs that reflect and represent varied themes of everyday life, love and loss. Now at 23, it would seem that Adeles songwriting and vocal talents have matured to portray a frankness and honesty that many of her peers can only hope to imitate.
Heavily influenced by a myriad of genres, Adeles style dances between blues, bluegrass and folk-pop to create a host of credible, not to mention memorable songs that are coupled with a rich, soulful voice that seems an impossible feat for one so small!

Originally hailing from Norfolk, Adele began her music career fronting a series of indie/rock bands such as Acquiesce and Manikin, both of whom received local acclaim and success from intensive gigging and the release of an E.P and album.
Adele was always a strong writing force within the bands but when Manikin split, she decided that enough was enough and the solo path was the way forward. So here she is, armed with a plectrum and a truthful sensitivity that speaks of genuine life experience, Adele is here to stay and is most definitely set for success.

We asked Andrew to say a few words pending his performance at the debut Go Acoustic show @ The Hog in Armour...

"My first guitar was made from a cereal box, a kitchen roll tube and some elastic bands and I learnt to play by jamming along to Tubular Bells.

I guess I write melodic, simply arranged songs which have something to say. People often say I have a haunting voice. I don't draw on influences too much, I like to just enjoy playing and let the songs write themselves. However, Neil Young, Led Zeppelin and The Super Furry Animals have all made an impression."

as many of you know Go Acoustic in addition to our monthly shows at the Brickmakers Inn, Horsford, is holding shows, beginning September 20th @ The Hog in Armour in Norwich city Centre.

As always the Go Acoustic shows are FREE to get in and with 8 acts playing each show is the best value night out you can find, over the coming months we have some stunning acts booked so please be sure to get to the venue early to get a good seat. Q : Hi Dan, can you tell us a little about yourself?

A : Yeah sure, I am a twenty four year old singer/songwriter from Norwich. Currently living the dream but have to get a job very soon unfortunately.

Q : How did you find an affinity with Alt.Country?

A : I discovered the brilliant Ryan Adams and his album Heartbreaker and the music was so honest and simple and I just connected with it straight away. Then I just found more and more of these amazing artists and I am now hooked and dont listen to much else.

Q : Who are you listening to at the moment?

A : At the moment I cant stop listening to Neal Casal as he is just too good and has a brilliant voice. Also Ryan Adams album 29 has not been out of my cd player since it was released 6 months ago! I am obsessed with the Be Good Tanyas as well.

Q : Any plans to release your own work?

A : Yeah I am looking into it now as just made a demo and really pleased with it. Have some friends working on the art work.

Q : Can you tell us a little about your songwriting process?

A : I dont really have a process it usually just happens when I am just working things out on the guitar. I find beer helps with the lyrics! I tend to play songs to friends and if they like it I keep it.

Hey all,

Sunny weather brings out smiles : )

We here at Bakka are organizing a BBQ on SUNDAY 11th JUNE (Starts 12 noon)Bakka Recording Studio Lime Tree Barn Welgate, Mattishall, Norfolk, NR203PJ for all our friends that have recorded sessions here so far and those of you in bands that have wanted to come pay us a visit.
We are going to get some of the great acts to have appeared at our GO Acoustic club at the Horsford Brickmakers Arms (Next event : June 18th!!!) to play un-plugged in the garden through the day and the BBQ will be providing food for all the hungry tummys...

Bring a bottle!!!

We will be giving tours of the live and control rooms throughout the day for all of you that would like to see them.
Computers are great but this is going to be a lot better than sitting in front of your monitor at 1 a.m. : )

Q : Hi Steve, what can you tell us about Minutes Before Dusk?

A : I played drums since the age of seven, gaining experience from the age of 11 in church with many amazing muscians. In 2000 started drumming in 7 (!?) piece funk/rock band 'Akimbo', they formed for a battle of the bands comp, after which we all dis-banded! Formed punk band 'Nevertheless' in 2000/1 with friends Leon Poultney (The Light Outside/S.A.S/Her in the Mirror), Dom Tinkler (Strumpet/The Light Outside/Various other bands!) and Rob Charmicle (Legend), together till end of 2001. Then Formed 3 piece rock/punk/funk band 'Nigels Pipe Cleaner' with friends Leon Poultney and Tom Cushing (Best Bassist in Suffolk/London) at the end of 2001, together till mid 2002. Came to University, started playing acoustic guitar more and continued song writing on and off. April 2004 started drumming in the incredible and newly formed 'SAS' (spanish acoustic showdown) with Leon Poultney, Luis GayLord and Matt Cranleigh (Five Mile Drive). That brings us to present day, currently writing and singing my own emo/folk/acoustic songs in solo project 'Minutes Before Dusk'.

Lee Gordon of the Lee Gordon Trio : Go Acoustic favourite...

At the beginning of 2003 Lee put together his three piece band which has finally become known as Lee Gordon Trio. The trio have grown into an extremely tight unit. Darren Woolner (27) on electric and upright bass. Carl Cole (26) on drums is the newest addition to the family. Lee Gordon (27) is the singer-songwriter. His music is his life and soul. To see 'LGT' play is taking a journey into the passionate, raw and emotive songs Lee writes.

His voice is what surprises people the most. He sings each song like its his last, from wailing falsetto, to deep bluesy growls, to soft tear filled whispers. Scary and Unique.

The band light up the stage from the start with Lee fearlessly silencing the crowd with a solo a cappella performance that always shocks, then diving headlong into pounding, raw, alt/rock style workouts with spiralling melodies and precise rhythms. Then theyll step down a gear too the softest acoustic finger-picking pieces and heart wrenching solo songs, pausing for only a second then diving head long into soaring Slide Blues. Lee has a 1970's 12-string acoustic ,which he uses as a slide lap steel in his own individual way blending wailing, growling vocals with stomping melodic blues.

Their style is unique and diverse. Lee's songwriting has developed into a passionate, 'trend-ignoring' and ever-developing sound. The instruments they love, the boards of the stage and often audience ears, take a pounding as they disappear into the music!

Q : Hi Alex, can you tell us a little about yourself?

A : I never set out to become a singer songwriter, i didn't think "thats the genre i want to be in " it just kinda happened. Growing up my dad always played us a lot of music, but it was never force fed or deliberate it was just "there". He was always playing Counting Crowes or R.E.M., i think that idea of a great lyric has stuck with both me and my brother Rory through that.
When it comes to playing the guitar i'm no expert, for me its simply a way to write a song and get it across. It was a necessity which inadvertantly became fun!

Q : What about your process of writing songs and lyrics?

A : There are very few occasions when i actually sit down with the intention of writing a song. Again, as with coming into songwriting , it just happens. It may be phrase i like that develops or maybe even a single word. All in all its not a laboured process, they take half an hour to write and then develop as i rehearse them or play them live.You'll never hear a song played one way twice, they're constantly evolving!

Q : How did your song 'This is it' come to be?

A : A mixture of phrases i had lingering in my head merged into a story when i looked back over them. I suppose its about getting out of your depth, it certaintly isnt a statement of a any sort.

Q : Hi Andrew, can you tell us how Red Cassette came into being?

A : Red Cassette came about after bands i have been in split up a long time ago. I was sick of the hassles of being in bands and being let down by people who promise things they cannot deliver. So i started writing songs for myself, after a while i got the guts to play it to a couple of friends and family. Who all told me i should play it to other people and i should start gigging. So i did, and here i am.

Q : What does the future hold for you?

A :My plans for the future are somewhat blurred at the moment. I am currently looking for a house in London with some friends of mine, and also looking for employment to pay the rent, so i can concentrate on my music, which after all is the most important thing for me to do. I have recently had contact from some record labels including Echo, Parlophone and Tummy Touch but i am trying not to get excited because i don't want to fall to hard if its bad news...if you see what i mean. But it looks as though things maybe moving in a promising direction but only time will tell...

Q : Hi Lee, can you tell us a little about your work as a singer/ songwriter and your band The Lee Gordon Trio?

A : I'm a pretty late bloomer singer/songwriter wise. Been writing songs for about ten years but always as a side line to being in bands. About 4 years ago I really felt like I new what I wanted out of music, felt I could at last embrace the music that had become my therapy and best friend for so long. I remember the first solo gig I ever did, I was so scared. It was like bearing my soul to everyone there, like pulling my proverbial trousers down!
It was a very enlightening moment, like I finally understood myself a lot better. I am visciously passionate about what I do because it is about everything I hold dear, what I am, what I've felt, how I've bled. I mean every fucking note and every last word is my honesty kicking you in the arse.
I'm lucky to have finally put together an awesome band that is always progressing and learning musically and we are a very tight unit and I can't wait to see what the future hold for us in our music and our journey together

Q : Whats the story behind 'I am fine'?

A : 'I Am Fine' was a one of those songs that just fell into place. Music and lyrics happened at the same time, I love it when that happens, it is just pure honesty spilling out of my brain. It may make no sense to anyone else but I know what, where and when. it is about those times when you are not fine, it is very apparent your not but just don't want to talk about it. All those times you try and convince yourself an others that its ok but your dying inside. I do that a lot. Don't want to burden people, that why i write music it's my therapy, I would not be a well man without it trust me. It is a short song as that was all I had to say a short rant if you will to get it out one afternoon after returning from a crappy cleaning job I had in the middle of some pretty shitty stuff I was going through. I was listening to Jeff which always got me through. Sleep well dream brother see you soon.

Q : What does the future hold?

A : The future for us is bright as we will always be writing and performing, this is not my hobby or my job its my life and my very breath. We all know what happens when you stop breathing. Success in this fickle industry is a side show. I'll play my arse off till I drop down dead. If people want to listen then I'm humbled by your attention to my inane ramblings, if not it doesn't affect me in the slightest.

Hey all,
Sunday 14th May saw the very first Go Acoustic event @ the Brickmakers Arms in Horsford. So many thank you's are deserved we are not sure where to begin...firstly, a HUGE thanks to Glyn our hostess and her staff for having the daring to open their premises up to new ideas, new music and new faces. Secondly, ALL and EVERY band that played, from the beginning of the event at 12 noon to its close at half past 11p.m.We here @ Bakka are honoured that so many bands arrived to play and each gave such a memorable and passionate performance.
By design, Go Acoustic is organized to allow each performer a 6 song set so they can fully immerse themselves in their songs and the audience to hear a body of work by the songwriters performing.In all, 18 bands played, all gave wonderful performances, bringing each, their own souls and passions to the stage and pouring them out for all to hear. I was so happy that bands were talking and listening to one another...as I said before - i was hoping that the Go Acoustic event was going to be more fun than sitting infront of your monitor tapping away on Myspace at 1a.m. and it truly was, much better...to get to meet people face to face, to shake hands, to share laughs and smiles, to see and hear so much fantastic live music was a pleasure and honour...THANK YOU to ALL the artists that played!!! You did yourselves proud...
The next Go Acoustic event will be on the 18th June 2006 and this time will start at 3:00p.m - if you want to play, please get in touch a.s.a.p. and I will be posting regular bulletins here and on my space over the coming weeks to keep you informed of the growing list of acts...Take care, Jim and Ed
